Each week, you will be asked to watch some fantastic videos that will present a different focus theme to you. Then you’ll practice the presented ideas through our creative exercises. Next, you will respond to what you’ve learned and finally share your thoughts and creations. The weekly information presented in the video will be synthesized into beautiful PDFs that you are welcome to print out and place in your sketchbook journal.
The videos are beautifully filmed in the places that inspire Heidi – her art studio, her home and the Congaree River, barely a mile from her studio. We were fortunate to have the talented Maggie Calton join our team as filmmaker-in-charge, and she introduced us to Thomas Keim, a talented musician who wrote and performed the music. You can read more about them here.
We will create our mandalas on small sheets of paper – 4” x 6”. By the end of Mindful Mandalas, you will have produced quite a few of these. You can preserve your mandalas by sealing them within acrylic laminate pockets.
This is where your sketchbook journal will come into play. Each week, I will pose some questions for you to ponder. They will allow you to dig a bit deeper into the focus of the week. Your sketchbook/journal will be the keeper of your thoughts, the holder of the questions that will arise during the next ten weeks! It will also serve as an alternative place for you to create additional mandalas.
Along the way, we will be adding words and phrases to our mandalas. At the closing of our eight weeks together, you will have a “set," a collection of Mindful Mandalas that will be a source of inspiration for you.
One of our hopes for Creating Brave is to develop a vibrant, caring online community. We hope you will share your creations, your insights, your fears, your joys, your ups and downs, your frustrations, and your successes. We will show you how. After each lesson, you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and your visual creations. This is of course optional, but we hope you will help us build our Creating Brave community of support.
After you pay and enroll, you will be asked to provide your email address and create your own password. Please keep this information in a prominent and secure location, as you will need to provide this information in order to log in. Then, you will receive a confirmation email. This confirms your participation and your place in the course.
After your payment clears for a class, you will be sent an email that will introduce you to who we are, what we do, and why we do what we do. You will be able to access three welcome videos to watch. These explain the meaning of Creating Brave, introduce you to Heidi’s take on teaching, and acquaint you with the idea of art as healing.
You will also be guided in how to prepare for the first class. A supply list will be provided. Then you can relax and wait for the first day of class.
Prior to the start of the class, we‘ll send you a reminder. By receiving the confirmation emails, you are assured of a seat in class, and you agree to keep the page's password strictly to yourself and to not share it with others.
All you need is any Web-enabled device, personal computer, or tablet. In some cases, you might even be able to use your smart phone. We encourage you to use a larger screen so that you can have an optimal view of our videos.

Content questions can be addressed in our Gathering Place section within the website, or you can email Heidi directly at [email protected]. We may not be able to respond to every single comment or post within our “Gathering Place." Our goal is to reserve that space for you, fellow creatives, to create your own individual community and connect fellow creatives with each other.

You can order them online. We've provided links to Amazon on our supplies page as well as a printable PDF that you can take to your local arts and crafts store, if you prefer to purchase them directly. This information will be available after your registration is confirmed.
It will take you about 20 minutes to go through the content of each weekly lesson. Allotting 10 minutes to an hour to practice what you learn will give you a solid experience. We recommend setting aside at least two ½-hour sessions every week to work through the mandala lessons. If you can secure an hour of uninterrupted time a week, that's terrific!
We’ve designed our classes so that you learn at your own pace. You may return to classes that you have not finished or revisit some of your favorite ones.
Yes, we encourage it! Invite your friends, family members, and/or colleagues to join you, but it is NOT OKAY to market or advertise to the public. Remember that each participant must register individually. It is not okay to purchase one class registration and share it with the group.
Of course! We think our classes make wonderful gifts. You can purchase multiple seats in the class and gift them to friends, colleagues, family, small groups, etc. However, you may not purchase multiple seats in the class and sell them to friends, colleagues, family, small groups, etc.
